John is an experienced radiation oncologist with over 40 years of expertise in diagnosing and treating breast cancer and DCIS. He trained at both Sydney and Harvard Universities.

He was the founding director of BreastScreen Western Sydney, the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute, and the ALERT Lymphoedema Centre.

Through BC Publishing, John produces practical, plain-English books to help patients and families understand breast cancer, DCIS, male breast cancer, lymphoedema, treatment choices and recovery after cancer.

The Taking Control series combines medical expertise, patient stories, diagrams, glossaries and practical explanations to support informed discussions with doctors and treatment teams.

He consults at ICON Cancer Centre in Sydney, located within the award-winning Sydney Adventist Hospital Integrated Cancer Centre in Wahroonga.

He has published more than 200 research and clinical articles and consults with patients across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.

In 2017 he was awarded a Member (AM) in the Order of Australia.
